Silver Base
For Your Antique Glass Collection or to Use Around Your Home.
Details
Description:
Antique sugar bowl and creamer made of etched crystal and having a sterling silver base. The base is marked sterling on one of the ribs on the inside, which makes it difficult to see and photograph. The crystal body is etched with a beautiful floral and foliate pattern reminiscent of French lace. The sugar bowl has two handles, while the creamer has one handle and a spout. Both pieces have very nice shaped plain rims with nice curvature. Because the items are made of clear crystal glass, it was rather difficult to photograph to convey the beauty and delicate nature of the etching. Hence we have taken many photos from many angles with different backgrounds in an attempt to convey the true beauty of the pieces. Please view photos as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date:
Late 1800s to early 1900s
Origin:
Probably continental.
Size:
Sugar bowl measures 2 1/4" in diameter at the base, is 2 5/8" high to the middle of the rim, 3" at its highest and is ~4 1/4" at its widest point including the two handles. The creamer measures 2 1/4" in diameter at the base, is 2 5/8" high to the middle of the rim, 2 13/16" at its highest and is ~3 5/8" at its widest point including the spout and handle. The pair weighs over 13 ounces.
Maker:
Unknown.
Marks:
The base for the two pieces are marked "STERLING" on one of the ribs on the inside, which makes it difficult to see and photograph.
Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece:
Truly a beautiful antique set, which is difficult to come by in such a good shape.
Condition:
Both pieces are in excellent shape with no breaks, cracks, hairlines, chips, or repairs. The bases have minor scratches and one or two minor dings, which are difficult to see. The piece could use a good cleaning of the base, but we are delegating this to the new owner. Please see photos to appreciate beauty and condition of this rare piece.
In Closing:
This is a rare antique in great shape and very difficult to come by. It would make a worthy addition to your collection.
