    Description

Antique Ojibway Indian Beadwork and Wood Doll's Cradleboard, Northwestern Great Lakes Region, Probably 1900-1930's.
This rare Ojibway doll's cradleboard is constructed of pine with a steam-bent ash hoop in the traditional manner and features a fine tiny seed beaded floral design on a greenish-gold velvet panel and a loom-beaded belt-like decoration wound around the hoop.  The hoop decoration was intended to visually entertain the child/ doll when strapped onto the carrier.
This toy served to pass on Native cultural values to a young girl and illuminates the attention to and the reverence for children in those cultures.
    Dimensions:  12-5/8" tall x 6-1/8" wide x 7" maximum depth
Condition:  Excellent.  Beadwork panel and beaded hoop decoration are intact. Wooden frame is undamaged.
