Hopi/Zuni Warp Float Dance Garters/Knee Belts
Most Garters / Knee Belts / Legging Ties were intended to be used and were used hard.  Most show some wear.  These, overall, are in pretty remarkable condition.  Note the quality of weave on the Zuni garters.  This level of quality is very, very uncommon.  It required many more hours to spin the much, much finer yarn and longer to weave with smaller yarn.  I shudder to think how long some of these weavers spent on a pair of garters.  Garters were highly valued and not everyone had a pair.  Many items of dance regalia were often loaned and many have ownership marks to help insure their eventual return to their proper owner.  I have witnessed near fist fights over the ownership of loaned items, so ownership marks are never a problem for me.  In a way, they form a kind of provenance.  They are, perhaps because of the fact that they were so often worn out, much more rare than belts/sashes and, consequently, more expensive.  But, then again, you are getting two instead of one.  Then again, they are smaller!  Humor aside, I would say that for every 50 sashes you will see one set of garters.  These were acquired over a period of 20 years of vigorous effort with several dealers looking for sets for me.  The prices, as before, are, in most cases, well less than I paid.
