ORIG 1940 DISNEY "FANTASIA" PIPING CHERUBS FROM PASTORAL SYMPHONY ANIMATION CELS

Description

Here's another amazing artifact from one of the greatest of all Disney films.  This pair of
ORIGINAL TRIMMED ANIMATION CELS FROM 1940's "FANTASIA"
pictures the
PIPING CHERUBS
from the
"PASTORAL SYMPHONY"
.  These two pieces were clipped by Disney staff from two separate animation cel sheets for the purpose described below.  The characters appear in the Pastoral sequence as they entice a lonely blue centaurette to join a male companion (see screen grab from youtube).  The pink-haired cherub appears just a split-second after the other two, but in keeping with the desire to create "perfect" images they selected a different moment.  I have pictured the two cels in the approximate position shown in the screen grab.
The cel has quite a history.  It came from the estate of Louise Bauer, a famed pottery designer from Zanesville, Ohio.  Bauer did contract design work for Walt Disney Productions in the 1940s from her Ohio studio.  She received reference art work from Disney to help inspire her to develop pieces for production by Disney licensees, including animator model sheets and production cels.  The extraordinary part of the story is that each piece sent to her by Disney was selected for being the most appealing image of their characters … each image is the best of the best ~ exactly as we remember the characters from the finished cartoons and films.
Among the items I obtained from the estate was a letter from Disney which states:
"This material does not need to be returned; you may keep it with the other reference art that you now have."
The PIPING CHERUBS images offered for sale are on two trimmed pieces of celluloid.  The clip with the blond and orange haired cherubs is approximately 3 5/8" tall and 6 3/4" wide; the pink haired cherub is on a piece that is 3 1/4" tall and 3 3/4" wide.  The cels have light rippling, which is common with production cels of this vintage.  Each painted images of the cherub is approximately 2 1/4" tall and 2" wide.  I had the cels professionally cleaned, restored and preserved by the top animation preservation company in the country ~ S/R Laboratories, which does similar work for the Disney company.  As you can see, the result is absolutely gorgeous.
This is an original "FANTASIA" Production Cel photographed for the original film - not a modern "limited edition" recreation.
